John Deere 4450 FWA
Dale got a call from a friend who works at our local JD dealership. “You might want to come take a look at what we have in the shop.” That prompted a visit. Although starting to read about these new tires, we had never seen a tractor outfitted with these big tires in person. Apparently seeing the JD 8R410 FWA with Titan LSW tires all around gave Dale some inspiration!
To get the right start to this new build we thought a JD 755 FWA would be a good fit. Next on the agenda was finding tires. After some emails, phone calls and searching, the rear Titan tires were found and ordered. The front Titan tires we wanted took some waiting until they were back in production.
Have the tractor, have the tires…..enthused and time to start building. Blank rims are frequently used so we can adjust spacing and let us design as we want. Inserts were mocked up for front and rear rims. Front weight bracket built and weights added. We are often asked if our tractors are half scale. We say garden tractor size because the tractors we start with are varied as are the tractors we try to replicate. Since this build was on a compact tractor it is even larger than “half scale.” BUT parts of each build do fall into that 1/2 scale range. We focus more on the total look rather than being exact on every scale.
There are always parts that are lengthened, shortened, added, altered, made from scratch, etc. that might not be apparent. I’ll start a list here: fenders, flashers, light bezels, wiring, air cleaner, working muffler, emblems, handles, decals, fuel caps, front grill, side screens, 3 pt., quick hitch…..
We had a vision. Didn’t know if it would work out, but now it makes us smile.
